Who Am I?

Standing on front porch of the Historic Mercy Hospital building where I was born.
My baby pictures made into mixed media collage art.

I’m Carola Jones, an Indigenous teaching artist, writer, and cultural preservationist based in Wilson, North Carolina. My creative practice weaves together storytelling, natural dyeing, quilting, beadwork, and hand embroidery, rooted in Indigenous (Tuscarora and Seminole) Eastern Woodlands and Geechee Gullah traditions.

Through my studio and brand, Fiber Art by Carola, I create medicine cloth, one-of-a-kind, hand-dyed, hand-stitched wearables and home goods that honor land, memory, and transformation. Each piece is both art and story, a living tribute to the women and ancestors who stitched before me.

As the founder of Stitching Culture, I also write, teach, and document traditional textile practices, blending heritage with contemporary art and digital storytelling. My work seeks to reconnect community through color, cloth, and the power of cultural survival.
